Founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam Sr. — the father of modern recording — Universal Audio has spent over sixty years building the world's most revered studio hardware and the software that faithfully recreates it. Apollo interfaces, UAD plug-ins and Satellite DSP are the standard in professional studios from Los Angeles to London — and now across MENA and Turkey through MediaCast.
Bill Putnam Sr. invented the modern recording console, designed the first studio reverb chamber and created the 610 tube microphone preamp — the circuit still used in the UA 610 hardware and emulated in UA's most popular plug-in. When he passed the company to his sons in 1999, they set out to preserve that legacy in software and hardware built to the same uncompromising standard.
Universal Audio Apollo interfaces combine world-class AD/DA conversion with onboard UAD-2 DSP processors — allowing real-time plug-in monitoring through authentic analogue emulations at near-zero latency. The UAD plug-in library — over 200 titles — covers every essential piece of studio hardware from the 1950s to today, licensed and developed with the original manufacturers.
Available across MENA and Turkey through MediaCast — authorised distributor, in stock in Dubai, with live demonstrations at the MCX Experience Centre in Barsha Heights.
Apollo interfaces combine elite AD/DA conversion with onboard UAD-2 DSP processing — enabling real-time tracking through authentic analogue hardware emulations at near-zero latency. Every Apollo runs the full UAD plug-in library.
Eight Unison-enabled preamps, +4dBu line-level monitoring, quad-core UAD-2 DSP, AES/EBU digital I/O and ADAT expansion. The centrepiece of a professional studio — handles tracking, mixing and mastering UAD processing simultaneously without touching the host CPU.
Six channel rack unit with two Unison preamps, six line outputs, dual headphone outputs and HEXA-core UAD-2 DSP. The professional desktop interface — sufficient UAD processing power for any mix session, premium conversion in a compact form factor for studios where rack space is at a premium.
Half-rack Apollo with two Unison preamps, four analogue outputs, QUAD-core UAD-2 DSP and Thunderbolt 3. The entry point to the Apollo x range — all the UAD hardware emulation processing of the flagship at a more accessible price point. Ideal for the professional home studio or secondary studio room.
Single Unison-enabled preamp, two analogue outputs and SOLO-core UAD-2 DSP via USB-C — the most accessible Apollo, and the only one that works with Windows PCs as well as Mac. Ideal for the home studio producer who needs UAD hardware emulation without committing to Thunderbolt infrastructure.
Sixteen channels of elite conversion via DB-25 connectors, HEXA-core UAD-2 DSP and Thunderbolt 3 with a dedicated monitor output section and AES/EBU I/O. For professional post-production suites and mastering facilities requiring maximum channel count with full UAD processing power on every mix.
UAD-2 Satellite units add dedicated DSP processing to any studio — expanding UAD plug-in capacity for sessions that demand it, or adding UAD to systems without an Apollo interface.
Eight UAD-2 DSP processors in a single external unit connected via Thunderbolt. Adds enough processing power to run a full UAD-heavy mix session on every channel simultaneously — the choice for large professional recording facilities where DSP headroom is non-negotiable.
Four UAD-2 DSP processors via USB — the most accessible way to add UAD processing to a Windows or Mac studio. Expands the UAD capacity of an existing Apollo or adds UAD plug-in processing to any DAW setup without purchasing an Apollo interface. Connects alongside an existing audio interface.
Internal PCIe cards for Mac Pro and Windows workstations — Solo, Duo, Quad and Octo configurations. For studios built around tower workstations where internal expansion is preferred over desktop units. Lowest possible latency DSP processing, tightly integrated with the host machine.
UAD plug-ins are not generic approximations — they are licensed emulations developed with the original hardware manufacturers, built from circuit analysis, component measurements and sign-off from the engineers who designed the originals.
Neve 1073, 1084, 88RS channel strip; SSL 4000 E, G and 9000; API Vision Channel Strip. The foundational colour of professional recording — now accessible without the hardware price tag.

Switch between mic models before, during or after recording. Stereo-capable. Works in real-time at near-zero latency with Apollo.
Same dual-capsule design as the DLX — 20 mic models included with the option to expand to the full 38. Works with any interface via the native Hemisphere plug-in, or real-time on Apollo DSP. The most versatile single microphone available at its price point: one capsule, unlimited tonal options.
UA's Bock series recreates legendary vintage large-diaphragm condenser designs with modern improvements. The Bock 167 is a FET cardioid condenser with high-pass filter and 10dB pad — built to exceed the vintage designs that inspired it. The Bock 187 provides multi-pattern versatility for acoustic tracking rooms.
Large-diaphragm condenser with Hemisphere modeling. Professional sound at an accessible price — pairs with Hemisphere to access UA's full modeling library through one microphone.
Matched small-diaphragm cardioid condenser pair for acoustic instruments, drum overheads and room capture. Available as a matched pair with stands and cables — the complete setup for acoustic guitar, piano or strings.
UA dynamic microphones with Hemisphere modeling built in. The SD-7 adds a built-in +25dB preamp for low-sensitivity sources — cardioid dynamics that can model classic dynamics and condensers via the Hemisphere plug-in.
Switches between 38 classic mic emulations before, during and after recording. With an Apollo interface, runs on UAD DSP for near-zero latency real-time monitoring through any mic model. Also works natively with any interface on Mac and Windows.

Universal Audio still builds its original hardware units in Santa Cruz, California — the 610 tube preamp and the 1176 and LA-2A compressors that have appeared on more records than any other pieces of equipment in history.
Bill Putnam Sr.'s original 610 tube microphone preamplifier circuit — the console he used to record Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole and hundreds of other landmark recordings. Still hand-built by UA in California. Adds harmonic warmth and tube saturation that no digital emulation fully replicates in an outboard box.
The UA 1176 is the most-used compressor in recorded music history — an FET-based limiting amplifier with four ratio settings and the legendary all-button mode that adds aggressive harmonic distortion alongside extreme compression. Available in the Rev A (silver), Rev E (black face) and Classic Limiting Amplifier reissue formats.
The Teletronix LA-2A optical levelling amplifier — originally designed in the 1960s and reissued by UA to the original specification. Programme-dependent attack and release characteristics and smooth optical gain reduction make it the default mastering compressor for vocals, bass and the 2-bus. No ratio knob, no attack knob: just turn the peak reduction until it sounds right.
The Arrow and Volt series bring UAD processing and UA's analogue heritage to portable and creator-focused setups — without requiring the full Apollo infrastructure.
The Volt series brings a vintage 1176-style circuit directly into the hardware preamp — switching a physical analogue circuit into the signal path for one-knob vintage limiting without any DSP processing. The Volt 276 adds two channels, MIDI I/O and a more comprehensive monitoring section for the music producer who wants UA analogue character at an accessible price.
Entry-point Volt interfaces — single and two-channel USB-C interfaces with the same vintage preamp circuit and 1176-style limiting switch. No DSP processing, no UAD plug-ins, but the same analogue preamp circuit and UA build quality. For creators, podcasters and home studios where budget is a primary consideration and analogue character is still valued.
The technologies that define UA's approach to audio — and why professional studios worldwide choose Apollo over other interfaces at the same price point.
Unison connects UAD preamp emulations directly to Apollo's physical input impedance, gain staging and circuit behaviour — changing the analogue hardware to match the emulation. Not just processing the signal: physically altering the circuit.
UAD-2 processors run entirely on dedicated silicon — SHARC floating-point DSP chips that consume no CPU resources. Run 50 UAD plug-ins simultaneously while your DAW handles audio playback, MIDI and video without a single dropout.
Apollo's Realtime Analog Classics package enables monitoring through UAD emulations at sub-2ms latency — latency imperceptible to the human ear. Singers hear themselves through 1176 compression while tracking, exactly as it will sound in the mix.
Apollo x interfaces connect via Thunderbolt 3 and can be daisy-chained — up to four units sharing DSP resources and operating as a single expanded system. An Apollo x8p plus an Apollo x16D gives 24 preamp inputs and 32 channels of conversion in a single integrated setup.
Luna is Universal Audio's free DAW for Mac — designed from the ground up for Apollo hardware. Native UA Instruments, tape machine emulation baked into the transport, and deep Apollo integration for the most complete UA studio experience. Free for all Apollo x owners.
Every UAD plug-in emulation is co-developed with the original hardware manufacturer — Neve, SSL, API, Lexicon, Studer, Roland and others. Circuit measurements, component analysis, and manufacturer sign-off. Not clones — the originals in software.
