Cedar Audio

Cedar Audio is the world leader in audio restoration, dialogue noise suppression and speech enhancement. Their tools are the standard for the world’s major broadcasters, post-production houses, film studios and forensic audio specialists — wherever the integrity of the audio signal is paramount. The BBC, Al Jazeera, CNN, Netflix and major film studios worldwide use Cedar processing to clean up location recordings, archive material and live broadcast audio with zero audible artefacts. When noise must disappear completely, Cedar is the answer.

THE BRAND

When the audio must be clean — Cedar is the answer.

Cedar Audio was founded in Cambridge, England in 1988 by Gordon Reid and Dr. Bob Craighero with a specific mission: develop audio restoration technology that could genuinely remove noise, clicks and interference from recordings without damaging the underlying audio signal. At a time when noise reduction meant audible artefacts, pumping and the loss of low-level detail, Cedar’s approach — based on sophisticated digital signal processing algorithms rather than simple broadband noise gating — represented a fundamental breakthrough. The result was processing that could remove noise invisibly, without the listener being aware that any processing had taken place.

The company’s tools quickly became the standard for broadcast organisations, film studios and post-production houses that needed to clean up location recordings, archive material and live broadcast audio. The BBC, ITV, CNN, Al Jazeera and virtually every major broadcaster in the world uses Cedar processing as part of their standard workflow. In the film industry, Cedar’s dialogue enhancement tools are used on major productions where location sound requires restoration before it can be used in the final mix — the kind of processing that makes the impossible possible in post production.

Cedar’s product range covers hardware units for real-time broadcast processing and plug-in versions for post-production workflows in all major professional DAWs. The DNS (Dialogue Noise Suppressor) series is particularly widely used in broadcast — a single Cedar DNS unit can clean up noisy location audio in real time, making it broadcast-usable in live scenarios where re-recording is impossible. For the MENA region’s rapidly growing broadcast and film production sectors, Cedar represents the professional standard for audio that must be heard clearly, regardless of the conditions in which it was recorded.

Broadcast Noise Suppression

DNS 2 & DNS 8 Live

The Cedar DNS (Dialogue Noise Suppressor) series are hardware units designed for real-time noise suppression in live broadcast and production environments where there is no opportunity for post-processing. The DNS 2 processes two channels simultaneously, the DNS 8 Live handles eight channels for larger productions. Both units remove broadband noise, air conditioning rumble, crowd noise and environmental interference from dialogue and commentary in real time, with no perceptible artefacts in the processed audio. Used by broadcasters, sports venues, houses of worship and conference facilities throughout the MENA region where clean, intelligible audio is non-negotiable.

Cedar Studio Plug-ins

Cedar Studio brings the company's world-class audio restoration algorithms to DAW plug-in format for post-production workflows, compatible with all major professional DAWs. The suite includes Cedar Retouch for visual audio restoration with spectrum editing, Cedar DNS One for broadband dialogue noise suppression, and the Cedar Hum Removal plug-in for eliminating power-line interference from location recordings. Each plug-in delivers Cedar's signature quality of processing — transparent, artefact-free noise removal that preserves the character and detail of the underlying audio while eliminating unwanted components with surgical precision that no other solution can match.
