Founded in 1988 following research funded by the British Library National Sound Archive, CEDAR Audio invented real-time digital audio restoration — a technology the world said was impossible. More than three decades later, CEDAR remains the global standard for noise reduction, dialogue suppression and audio forensics in broadcast, post production, live sound and law enforcement.
CEDAR Audio was established in Cambridge, UK in 1988 following five years of research funded by the British Library National Sound Archive. Its founders — including two Cambridge University Professors — set out to solve a problem the industry said was technically impossible: removing noise from audio recordings in real time without degrading the wanted signal.
They succeeded. Today, CEDAR is the only company in the world dedicated solely to audio restoration and speech enhancement. Its DNS (Dialogue Noise Suppressor) hardware is the broadcast industry standard; its CEDAR Cambridge platform is used in the world's leading archives and mastering studios; its Trinity and forensic tools are used by law enforcement and security agencies worldwide. CEDAR has received the Academy Award® for Technical Achievement, two Cinema Audio Society Awards and the Emmy®.
Available across MENA and Türkiye through MediaCast — in stock in Dubai, with demonstrations at the MCX Experience Centre in Barsha Heights.
CEDAR's DNS hardware units are found in broadcast trucks, radio studios, dubbing stages and outside broadcast facilities worldwide. They remove unwanted background noise from speech in real time — at near-zero latency, with a single dial. No fingerprinting. No noise floor sampling. Just turn up the suppression.
Eight-channel dialogue noise suppressor with Dante® audio-over-IP. The flagship DNS unit — installed in broadcast trucks, large-venue production rigs and IP-based broadcast facilities. Eight independent processing channels, full Dante networking for flexible routing, and CEDAR's LEARN adaptive algorithm that continuously tracks and responds to changing background noise levels. Each channel has its own suppression control; the DNS 8D can handle eight separate presenter positions simultaneously.
Eight-channel dialogue noise suppressor for live sound and broadcast environments where audio over IP is not required. Analogue and AES/EBU connectivity — the DNS 8S is designed for installations where simplicity, reliability and traditional routing are prioritised. Eight processing channels with individual suppression, the same LEARN adaptive algorithm as the DNS 8D, and a straightforward analogue signal chain from input to output. The installation choice for live events, theatre and traditional broadcast environments.
Portable four-channel dialogue noise suppressor for location sound and smaller broadcast setups. Compact enough for an ENG kit but powerful enough for full broadcast-quality suppression on four independent channels. CEDAR's LEARN algorithm, the same core DSP as the full rack units, in a field-ready format. For electronic news gathering, documentary production and location recording where background noise is unpredictable and variable.
Two-channel portable dialogue noise suppressor — the entry point into CEDAR hardware for location sound professionals. Two independent processing channels in a compact unit that fits in a sound bag alongside a mixer or recorder. Widely used for interviews, corporate video production, documentary work and broadcast ENG where two channels — often a lavalier and a boom — need CEDAR-quality noise suppression in the field.
The Icons range brings CEDAR's broadcast and restoration algorithms into a VST/AU/AAX plug-in format — available individually or as task-focused bundles. The same DSP used in CEDAR's hardware, running in your DAW session.
CEDAR's renowned dialogue noise suppressor as a plug-in. The Emmy® award-winning DNS algorithm — the same processing as the hardware units — in a format that works in any DAW. Near-zero latency, single-knob control, LEARN adaptive noise estimation. For post production editors who need DNS-quality suppression without hardware.
Next-generation voice extraction and dialogue noise suppression — significantly more aggressive noise reduction than DNS One, with natural-sounding speech preservation. Used by Expedia Group for communications processing. "I've tested a whole variety of de-noisers and CEDAR's VoicEX 2 does a fantastic job of removing unwanted noise while maintaining very natural-sounding speech." For demanding post production and broadcasting applications.
Near-zero latency noise suppression optimised for screencast, online meetings and remote broadcast — removes keyboard noise, HVAC, background conversation and other typical work-from-home interference from voice calls and recordings. Runs as a system audio processor or DAW plug-in.
Real-time noise suppression optimised for live stage applications — removes air conditioning, crowd noise and stage noise from live microphone feeds. Designed to work without a noise fingerprint or manual setup: switch it on and the algorithm adapts.
The next generation of adaptive and spectral limiting — reviewed as "the new gold standard for mastering and demanding post-production tasks" by Studio Magazin Germany. Push the limits of your audio without loss of transparency, depth or soundstage. For mastering engineers who need precision limiting without the compromises of traditional peak limiters.
Eliminate clipping distortion with ease — Declip 2 analyses the signal and reconstructs overloaded waveforms, removing the hard-limiting artefacts left by analogue and digital clipping. For archive restoration, location sound recovery and any recording where clipping has damaged the original content.
Automatic dehissing that actually works — CEDAR's Auto Dehiss requires no noise fingerprint and makes no assumptions about the noise floor. The algorithm identifies and removes broadband hiss automatically while preserving the wanted signal. For tape transfers, location recordings and any audio where noise floor is a consistent issue.
Eliminate electrical buzz and mains hum without unwanted artefacts — Debuzz targets 50Hz/60Hz hum and its harmonics, removing electrical interference from audio with no manual frequency identification required. For location recordings, archive material and broadcast audio affected by electrical interference.
Remove clicks, pops and crackle from audio — Declick targets impulsive noise events such as vinyl pops, tape dropouts and switch clicks, while Decrackle addresses continuous crackle from degraded analogue recordings. The Emmy® award-winning decrackling algorithm. Essential tools for archive and remastering workflows.
CEDAR's bundles group the Icons plug-ins by application — giving you exactly the tools you need for dialogue cleanup, home recording or archive restoration at a lower combined price than individual titles.

The technologies that define CEDAR's approach to noise suppression — and why professional broadcasters, post facilities and archives worldwide choose CEDAR over alternatives.
CEDAR's LEARN technology continuously calculates an adapting estimate of the background noise level, determining suitable attenuation at each frequency — without requiring a noise sample. Switch it on; it adapts to whatever conditions exist and continue to change.
All CEDAR hardware operates at near-zero latency — the processing delay is imperceptible in live broadcast and events contexts. Presenters hear their processed audio in their earpiece without the latency that ruins live IFB monitoring.
CEDAR's processing suppresses noise without introducing the musical noise, bubbling or distortion artefacts that characterise cheaper noise reduction tools. The wanted signal comes through clean and natural — not processed. This is the distinction that has earned CEDAR its industry accolades.
The DNS 8D integrates with Dante audio-over-IP networks — allowing CEDAR processing to be deployed anywhere in a networked facility without fixed cabling. Route signals to the DNS 8D from any Dante-enabled device on the network and return processed audio to any destination.
CEDAR has received the Academy Award® for Technical Achievement, two Cinema Audio Society Awards and the Emmy® for contributions to broadcast technology. These are not marketing claims — they are independent professional recognitions of genuine technical achievement from CEDAR's peers.
CEDAR was founded following research at Cambridge University and maintains strong academic links — including two Cambridge University Professors and a Director of Studies among its directors. The company actively pursues research into new techniques in audio restoration and speech enhancement, ensuring CEDAR's DSP remains at the leading edge.
